Plumeria In Tucson

September 5, 2008 by spacegurrrl

Well, I had ordered some Plumeria seeds from texashotplants.com.  They were pretty cheap ($3 for a package of 15!).  They were no names, just pink, white and yellow.  They were out of stock on the yellow so I ordered one package of Pink and one of White.  Some of them sprouted and the ones that did are doing great.  I decided that I would plant these in the ground this year.  I just did.

It seemed like last year, the weather was warm until December.  I am hoping that it will be the same this year.

I planted three of them in the ground and we will see how well they do.

My concern is that they will be in all day sun, and in the winter, they will be in the coldest part of the yard.

Adenium

July 4, 2008 by spacegurrrl

This is one of the Adeniums I got from buried treasures. It seems like the larger ones are healthier than the newly grafted ones. Some of the newly grafted Adeniums I have bought from them have died. :(

This one is doing well.

Strawberries

July 4, 2008 by spacegurrrl

I like strawberries.  I had plans of raising lots of them, but, the birds seem to beat me to them.  This year, the birds, so far, have stayed away.  These strawberries aren’t very sweet.  They are good though.

More Adeniums

I got these Adeniums from Wal-Mart.  I think they are kind of pretty.  They are nothing super special, but, they are pretty.

My Adenium Seedling

July 4, 2008 by spacegurrrl

This is one of the seeds I planted last year from rare exotic seeds. I think it’s doing pretty well. The blooms aren’t anything special, but it is special to me  since it was from my first batch of sprouted Adeniums. This was a seed that was labeled as “Dark Forest”.

Plumeria from Home Depot

July 4, 2008 by spacegurrrl

I splurged and bought some already blooming Plumeria from Home Depot.

Pink Plumeria

Newly opened.

Close to the end of the bloom.

A combination.  Actually, I don’t understand, these whiter color blooms are a few days old and the two darker pink, slightly lavender blooms opened yesterday, and as you can see the bloom in the bottom right is a darker pink.  Does temperature and humidity determine the bloom color?  I guess I shall google it and see. :)

Red Adenium Hybrid

July 4, 2008 by spacegurrrl

My Red Adenium hybrid today.  The blooms open up with a black edge and a pretty deep red.  As the days go by the flower color fades.  I don’t know if this is completely normal, or that our AZ sun is just so blinding that it bleaches the petals.

Venus Flytrap (still blooming)

June 27, 2008 by spacegurrrl

Wow!  My Venus flytrap is still outside in the Tucson heat.  It gets morning sun then, afternoon shade.  At about noon, the shade comes in.  The flytrap is still blooming!  I think it has sent up about 4 bloom stalks.  I do have to admit, I am amazed at the heat and dryness it has taken.  I think now with the monsoon, it will feel more like home to it.

Hydrangea

This is what my Hydrangea looks like today. I couldn’t wait for it to bloom and now it does this.
